Trailer travel tales - central Australia

One of Bandicoot Trailers' customers, Simon, recently returned from his trip with his Honda Fireblade and motorcycle trailer "up the belly of Oz" from Mt Barker SA to Katherine NT and back. Here's a brief report from his travels...

My son Ethan and I headed off on Fathers Day ’09 for our big adventure, to get Ethan to Katherine for 2 weeks of work experience. We had been planning this trip for months.

We set off in some slight Adelaide Hills drizzle, first night Port Augusta with family. Second day we set off early up the Stuart Highway to Coober Pedy along the way riding through high winds and increasing temperatures. The new trailer was handling the journey without a problem. I was very happy.

Next day we admired the amazing vistas of the Coober Pedy landscape, mile after mile of Mullick dumps. The vastness of our big outback is amazing, the ’95 CBR900RR Fireblade flying along with its trailer, certainly a strange site for some as usually they have a cruiser bike pulling them. But hey, it does the job for me.

Arrived at the Uluru Yulara campground a little before sundown, with time to watch the sun go down on the rock. Next day we investigated The Olgas (Kata Tjuta), had some lunch and strolled up into the Walpa Gorge walk After this it was back to Uluru for the Sunset show.

Once we reached Katherine we had 2 days rest where I left my son on a farm to do 2 weeks of work experience. I then headed back down. First day I rode for 12 hours and made it to Alice Springs, the second day I rode for 13 hours and made it to Roxby Downs SA and third day 7 hours to get home. Through all of this I was so impressed with the trailer, it handled the 7,000km so well behind the Fireblade, which I must say turned a few heads every time I stopped for fuel. The trailer went so well I had to keep checking behind me to see if it was still there!
