FAQs about bike trailers
Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about Bandicoot Trailers. If you have a question that’s not answered on this website, please feel free to contact us.
Q. How does towing a trailer affect my bike’s handling?
A. If you’re used to carrying lots of luggage in panniers, tank bags and backpacks, you’ll probably find that putting your gear in a trailer instead of these will actually improve handling. Obviously if you load up the trailer with a really heavy load it may slow your bike down a little (and you'll need to allow extra braking distance)! You should stow your cargo sensibly, to avoid an imbalanced load, and bear in mind the maximum carrying capacity. See our hints and tips for towing a motorcycle trailer.
Q. What do I need on my bike to tow one of your trailers?
A. All you need is a standard tow bar with 50mm ball fitted to your motorcycle. This connects to the tow hitch on the trailer. We can get a tow bar for you when you order a trailer and you can get it fitted at your local bike shop. For more info see accessories.
Q. Can a Bandicoot trailer be towed behind a car?
A. Yes, our trailers have a swivel hitch that fits onto a standard 50mm car tow ball. All you'll need is a plug adapter lead, readily available from car accessory stores.
Q. How do I register my trailer?
A. We will provide your trailer ready for registration and give you the vehicle identification details you need so you can arrange registration with your state's transport department. If you are based in Queensland, we will send the relevant forms for you to complete, so you can register your trailer in advance if you are collecting it in person.
Q. Where will you deliver to?
A. We can deliver anywhere in Australia. Delivery charges depend on exact location and timing; please contact us for a quote or see the delivery info. Alternatively, you can collect your trailer from our premises in northern Brisbane.
Q. How long will it take to get my trailer after I place my order?
A. Our standard lead time is 6-8 weeks, but it can vary according to market conditions. Sometimes we have trailers in stock, but generally we make them to order. We will estimate delivery timescales when you order a trailer.
Q. When do I pay and which forms of payment do you accept?
A. We require a $500 deposit to secure your trailer order, with the balance due on delivery. You can pay by Direct Bank Deposit, Postal Order, Bank Cheque, Personal Cheque (allowing time for clearance) or PayPal (2.5% surcharge applies for PayPal payments). We'll give you the details when you place your order, which you can do using the online order form or by contacting us via phone or email.
Q. Do the trailers come with a warranty?
A. Our trailers are built to last, so you’re not likely to have problems. If you use the trailer under normal operating conditions (without exceeding recommended load or speed rating) and you encounter a problem within the first two years, just contact us and we’ll sort it out. We always appreciate feedback (and don't forget to send us photos of your trailer on its travels!)
Q. Can I get a trailer to match the colour of my bike?
A. Our trailers come in a wide range of colours (see colour chart), so you should be able to choose something suitable for your bike. You are welcome to arrange a custom paint job yourself, but we do recommend the factory powdercoat as the best finish for your trailer.
